Thieves steal lighting equipment for Fresno City Hall Christmas tree

"It's awesome if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have a tree. We'd have a tree but it'd look like the way it does now, no lights, no ornaments, it would be a Charlie Brown tree," Jensen said.Volunteers say just wait until this tree is finished and all lit. It will be a display showing how the community came together to spread the holidays spirit."Times are tough where people don't have a Christmas tree this time of year because of foreclosure or the economy being bad, well this is kind of what's going to be their tree," Jensen said.The Merced County Sheriff's Department earlier this month received additional protective and trauma equipment and training for its K-9 unit at a seminar in Elk Grove.Volunteers are an essential part of Targa, he says, "and without them there is sup paddles no way that an event like this can run smoothly."We received the equipment and training, which is valued at approximately $5,000 or more, for free,You want to get attention to the issue. "It's a tremendous benefit to the county."The sheriff's department has seven canines and has been involved in the program for many years.The K-9 Emergency Medicine Seminar was held Nov. 6 at Elk Grove Regional Park. The event was hosted by the Police and Working K-9 Foundation, a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization.Deputies received emergency wound management training and instructions on how to properly use the equipment provided.
