Government planning proposals to simplify the process of
converting agricultural buildings into homes is a much-needed boost for
the Norths rural economy, says the CLA in the North.
New
town centre first planning rules being published for consultation allow
local people to transform agricultural buildings or empty premises,
which are not in prime retail locations, into much-needed homes,
nurseries and free schools. After calling on the Government to reform the
planning rules on barn conversions for over a decade, the Association
said it welcomed the proposals which will provide a much needed boost to
the rural economy.
CLA North Regional Director Dorothy
Fairburn said: We all recognise the urgent need for more housing across
all our villages and rural areas, so we welcome the proposals set out in
this consultation. This gives more flexibility to an
entrepreneurially-minded farmer to make the best use of his or her
property.
Clearly there are restrictions on the use of these
new rights and farmers will need to think very carefully when deciding
whether to rely on them. The Los Angeles-based trio comes to Sophias
Thai Kitchen in Davis tonight, bringing with them a sun-drenched,
60s-style surf sound reminiscent of a stripped-down Beach Boys with a
folk-pop vibe.
Singer-songwriter Matt Adams, 32, has been the
driving force C and sometimes the only force C behind the Blank Tapes
for 10 years.More of a project than a traditional band, the Blank Tapes
put out several albums that consisted of Adams on every instrument,
pieced together on the long-haired frontmans 8-track tape recorder at
home. His record Vacation, which came out in May, marks his first
studio release, recorded at New, Improved Recording in Oakland and under
Bay Area independent label Antenna Farm Records.
Though much of Vacation is Adams C vocals, guitars,Online supplies a large range of double sided tape. piano, bass, organ, percussion and keyboard C other musicians contributed,
as well. On tour, hes got a solid band lineup he said he feels great
about C with his buddy DA Humphrey on bass and his girlfriend, Pearl
Charles, behind the drum kit.
Over the years, Adams has garnered
high praise from publications such as Rolling Stone C which wrote Quick,
somebody sign them! years ago C as well as Pitchfork and The New
Yorker. He started in L.A., spent a few years in the San Francisco Bay
Area and returned to Southern California to be with his new bandmates in
2011.
The 60s were a pretty awesome time for music, art,
creativity, fashion, everything. Everything was really blossoming, in
addition to psychedelic drugs and psychedelic ideas. People were really
going outside their normal little safe boundaries of who they were and
what they did. It was an amazing, wild time for creativity, all over the
world. The general vibe of peace and happiness and living life the
way you want it C that whole ideal of life still rings true to me.
Theres a certain amount of freedom in the decade. Say what you want
about what happened to that freedom in the 70s, but for at least a few
years, it felt like counterculture was going to become more of a
majority.
I relate with the technology. All the 60s instruments C I
just love that sound. In the 70s, they got really into the synthesizer
and stuff, and I dont use so much of that. And the 80s C mostly MIDI
keyboard-driven music C thats cool too, but I dont quite connect with
that, either. Nowadays, we just have such a huge option for sounds, so I
narrow it down to stuff that came out in the 60s.
The title
track, Vacation, was mostly written on my first tour to Brazil in 2010.
And then the other song Brazilia, funnily enough, wasnt written in
Brazil, but in Mexico. But everything else was more or less written
around the last year of my time in the Bay Area. I had begun taking
little trips to L.A. to play shows and hang out with friends, and at
that time I was writing songs like Coast to Coast, which sort of
pre-empted my move (back) down.
Ive played Sophias five times,
Delta of Venus five times and elsewhere in Sacramento maybe a dozen or
so times. Davis is a cool town. And Sacramento, I think, is C dare I
say? C a cute town, with cute streets and houses. Ive had a great time
every time Ive been to Sacramento. Ive played a few fun house shows and
we definitely love all the vintage clothing stores.
Ive probably completely written 200 songs,Our offered BOPP Tapes are in compliance with the BOPP tape Products. recorded over 100, and then I have another 100 nearly written.
I write all the music with no problem and then the lyrics take more
time, and I dont always like them. But then there are a lot of random
tape recordings that Ive probably forgotten about too. I always have
ideas that could be songs. The smallest little idea might be in my head
for one second and out the next, but if I could hold onto it and
embellish it, it could become something really cool.
Its
like Ive almost set myself up for people criticizing my purest
intentions. The Blank Tapes suggests Ill always record on tapes, stocks a
huge selection of aluminum foil tape.
but I have recorded stuff on computers. Im open to everything. It just
so happens that most of what Ive released has been on tapes. I dont want
to trap myself in this analogue tape corner. So Vacation was recorded
half on tape, half digitally, and I think it sounds really great.
